Never Stop Training

I haven’t spent enough time with Orbit.  There I said it.

She came into our lives and I let Maggie train her.  Now that Orbit is a year and a half it’s becoming clear to me that I need to spend more time training her.

Some of the areas that I need to work on are:

  • Leash reactivity.  When we are out in public she turns into a beast and lets out this Kujo growls.  She gets low to the ground and pulls her on collar towards the other dog.  And in reality off leash she’s totally fine.
  • She also tends to pull all over the place when we are walking
  • And she’ll stick her tongue in your mouth when she’s licking your face off.  On this last one I don’t mind it as much but everyone else around me does.  I have learned to move my mouth away and keep it closed but others don’t know this about her.

The hardest thing about having a “naughty” pup is that we often think it’s a reflection on our lack of attention towards that pup.

We’ve been fortunate to spend time with Kaelin Munkkelwitz with Instagram @allthingspups to address some of these issues.  I recently also started to read her book which you can purchase on Amazon.

What I like about the book:

  • It’s comprehensive.  I have some books that I purchased about 2 years ago which did not go into this much detail.  I had to purchase several books to cover the subjects Kaelin does in one book.
  • It’s easy to read.  The format allows you to take a section and focus on that top.  For example there’s a section on preventing jumping up on people which I’ll be studying for my two.
  • It addresses all issues related to your puppy from first days home to nutrition and overall health and wellness.
