Grab it now – PetFetchID

July is Pet Loss Prevention Month, and to celebrate, we’ve partnered with our friends at Great Pet Care.  Great Pet Care is our go-to source for veterinarian-approved articles and practical, trustworthy pet content. They’re passionate about pet wellness and safety, which is why they’ve teamed up with PetfetchID to offer their readers a FREE ID tag.

Get your PetFetchID tag for free

You might already have a standard tag that has your dog’s name and phone number.

But today, technology allows you to enter more than these two bits of information. A smart digital pet id tag for your dog allows you to enter:

  • More than one phone number
  • A photo of your dog
  • Any behavioral issues
  • Any health issues
  • Allows your to be able to connect with those that find your dog anonymously
  • Your dog’s license information

Dogs get lost more often than you think

A search online will say that 1 in 3 dogs or cats go missing every year but I wasn’t able to find the source for that article.

Instead I found a study done by the ASPCA that state that 14% of dogs and 15% of cats in the study went missing once in a five-year period. Since their study had a small sample size, they used statistics to calculate that in the US pet population, between 11-16% of dogs (1 in 6 to 9) and 12-18% of cats (1 in 5 to 8) will go missing in a five-year period.

How do lost dogs find they way back home?

The ASPCA study found that 49% of dog guardians found their dog by searching the neighborhood, and 15 percent of the dogs were recovered because they were wearing an ID tag or had a micro-chip.

Why digital dog tags are important

If your dog is lost, it’s the easiest way that your dog can be identified and you can be contacted so that your dog is returned home.

When I first heard about digital ID tags I didn’t understand the concept but after I own one the two main benefits are:

  • It allows me to provide the person who finds my dog with the most information so that they contact me multiple ways
  • I am able to include all of the necessary information about my dogs

Road Testing the Smart Dog Tag

Maggie and Orbit have been wearing the tags for two weeks.

So far, so good. We live a fairly active beach life.

These smart digital dog tags withstand exposure to sand, dirt and ocean water on a daily basis.

How it works

PetfetchID tags have a unique ID number on the back designed to keep you connected with your pet at all times, while protecting your personal details. If your pet is lost, the finder can use your pet’s ID number through their loss retrieval system to instantly notify you of his/her location. You can also add your pet’s profile and picture for extra peace of mind.

I tested the loss retrieval system

I tested out the loss retrieval system by setting up my tag as an owner. It was easy and took less than five minutes to do.

I then tested out the system as a finder and found the messaging system easy to navigate and use.

Set Up Advice

I would recommend you fully take advantage of the ability to provide additional information in the notes section of your dog’s profile as follows:

  • Add in multiple phone numbers. For example enter in your significant other’s phone number; your work number and even your best friend’s number.
  • Provide instructions to text you to your mobile number.
  • If you’re the type that is always on social media – you can even provide your social media handle so they can DM you there.

Keep in mind you also have the ability to community inside the loss retrieval system so you don’t need to provide your contact information unless you want to.

Keep your dog protected: Get your own PetfetchID without spending a penny.  All you have to do is fill out a form and one will be sent to you.

Hannah Zulueta and her two dogs Maggie and Orbit

Hello, my name is Hannah and I dance with my dogs.

I am a Boston Terrier Breed Advocate.  I started this blog because there isn’t enough space to tell our story on our Instagram.

I have two Boston Terriers. Maggie is my socially awkward heart dog while Orbit is my shadow and soul dog.

You won’t read about cats here, but you will get a fairly large dosage of articles dedicated to this wonderful breed to help you learn more about them or provide practical tips as you raise your own. Read more about us.
